How TukoCare uses Health Connect

Last updated 29 August 2026

The short version. TukoCare reads exactly one thing — the daily step count — and only if you switch it on. It is saved as a Steps reading in your care circle, visible only to the people in that circle. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and processed by TukoCare for your circle. If you separately allow Tunza AI, relevant readings may also be sent to OpenAI. You can turn it off at any time and the rest of the app is unaffected.

What TukoCare is

TukoCare is a free app for families coordinating care for someone they love — usually an ageing parent or a relative living with a long-term condition. Family members and paid caregivers share one private circle where they log visits, medications, appointments and vital-sign readings, message each other, and see a daily summary of how the person is doing. The coordination features are free forever. An optional AI assistant, Tunza, is the only paid part, and it is not required to use anything described on this page.

The permission we request, and why

PermissionData typeWhy TukoCare needs it
android.permission.health.READ_STEPS Steps (read only) To import the cared-for person's daily step total into their care circle as a Steps vital reading, so the family can see their day-to-day activity trend without anyone having to write it down.

The benefit to the user. Day-to-day activity is one of the clearest early indicators of how an older adult is doing. A sustained drop in daily steps frequently appears before the person mentions feeling unwell, and is associated with declining mobility and increased fall risk. Because TukoCare already charts vital signs over time, importing steps automatically means the trend is there when the family or a clinician needs it — rather than depending on someone remembering to check a separate app and type the number in.

TukoCare requests no other Health Connect permission. It does not read heart rate, sleep, weight, blood pressure, blood glucose, oxygen saturation, nutrition, exercise sessions, reproductive health, or any other data type, and it does not write anything back to Health Connect. Every other vital shown in the app is entered by hand by a family member or caregiver.

Health Connect policy compliance

TukoCare's use of Health Connect follows the Health Connect by Android Permissions policy. We request the minimum data necessary for a feature that is live and visible in the app, we use it only for the purpose described above, and we do not transfer it for advertising, marketing, or sale.

Not medical advice

TukoCare and Tunza provide general information and care-coordination support only — not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for any medical concern or decision. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
